What do You Contribute?

I often work with clients who struggle to articulate what experience, strength and benefits they bring to their organisation.

  • Do you recognise this challenge?

  • Is it hard for you to put into words the difference that you make?

Many of you will be going through performance reviews or target setting sessions for the coming year. The following questions and challenges might help you better articulate your strengths and recognise the unique value you bring to your organisation or group.

If you can introduce these different perspectives into your conversations, you might be surprised at the results.

  • Think about the values and objectives of your organisation - do these chime with your inner values and mean that you can bring a personal commitment to achieving them? Show your organisation that you can help them create the future that they are working towards.

  • Your history is unique - can you help your organisation "connect the dots" on your personal and professional experiences to see the deep value that you bring? If they truly understand who you are, they may offer you more interesting opportunities in the future.

  • Have you received an award or been formally recognised in the past? Don't be arrogant, but share this with your manager and co-workers. It may change their perception of you.

  • Look for opportunities - have you done something in the past that might help the organisation now? Don't be worried if it is not specifically related to your current role. Tell them you have some skills that could help them and you are happy to do extra work.

  • Share your experience - offer to coach and mentor others.
